The blue church cupolas with their geometrical decoration are one of the symbols of the Costa Blanca. Altea sits on a hill, its top crowned by the parish church which is decorated with little white mosaic tiles. The magnificent cluster of buildings in the old Town is what gives Altea its charm. We can start a tour in the Plaza del Convento and go via the Pont de Moncau to reach the district of Vellaguarda. This is a group of steep, narrow cobbled streets with bay windows and little squares. We arrive at the Plaza, Altea’s cultural and leisure centre, where of the Virgen del Consuelo stands. Altea’s tranquility has made it a paradise for artist and craftsmen, whose shops and stalls fill the Old Town.

At the foot of the hill find the broad walks of the Passeig Maritim along the front and the shopping area of the Avenida del Rey Jaime I. Altea has 6 km of pebble beaches interspersed with cliffs.

La Roda beach is nexto to the woen centre, to the south is the largest beach, Cap Blanch, which joins up with Albir beach. To the north, Cap Negret is a gravel beach that ends in a little cove of black stones called Cala del Soio. Another popular beach is L’Olla, facing a small island of the same name. Altea ends at Punta del Mascarat and the Sierra de Bernia, where there are gravel coves such as La Barreta, La Solsida and La Galera. Towartd the Sierra de Bernia is the former location of Altea, Altea La Vella, a tiny village with a Way of the cross that goes up to a Calvary surrounded by cypressed. Good reasons for excursions to the Sierra de Bernia are the Font of Garrofet (a fountain) and the ancient fortress.
